Where to find sun from Riga

Riga is Baltic: frozen or grey in winter, mild and light in summer. Jurmala is the city's beach, and it has the same temperature.

What you can reach

About 2 hours by car: Siauliai (about 1 h 45), Panevezys (about 2 h), Cēsis (about 1 h 15).

Further, still inside 5 hours: Vilnius (about 3 h 45), Tallinn (about 4 h), Kaunas (about 3 h 15), Klaipėda (about 3 h 15), Lida (about 5 h).

Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Rostock, Koszalin, Helsingborg, Stockholm. The four-hour circle is other northern capitals. Treat it as a city break. It is not a sun trip.

Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.

When to stay

Vilnius is further inland and, in winter, colder. Tallinn is the same sea. A five-hour drive never leaves this climate. Summer on the coast can be the whole plan. Winter sun starts when the flight does.

Crossing the water

The ferry to Stockholm is an overnight crossing of the Baltic. You arrive in another northern capital, in the same season.
