About WeatherFinder
Most weather sites tell you what the weather will be. We answer the question you actually have on a grey Friday: is it better somewhere I can reach, and is it worth the drive?
What SunFinder does
SunFinder is our main tool. You give it a starting point, the days you are free and how far you are willing to travel. It compares the forecast at home with every destination within reach and tells you where the weather is meaningfully better — and when it is not worth leaving home.
Step 1
Your weather first
We take the forecast for where you are for the days you picked: sunshine hours, daytime high, rain risk.
Step 2
Everything within reach
We check hundreds of places across Europe that fit the travel time and transport you chose, and estimate how long getting there takes.
Step 3
A straight verdict
Each place is compared with home. Extra sun and warmth are weighed against the travel time, and we tell you plainly whether it is worth going.
We deliberately show fewer, clearer results. If the forecast is uncertain, we say so. If home is just as sunny, we tell you to stay. The guides explain the thinking in more depth, from reading forecasts to planning day trips.
Where the data comes from
We rely on open and commercial data sources and are grateful to the people behind them:
- Weather forecasts and history: Open-Meteo.com (CC BY 4.0) and WeatherAPI.com.
- Maps and place names: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), via Nominatim.
- Travel times: openrouteservice by HeiGIT.
- Understanding free-text searches and short summaries: OpenAI language models.
Forecasts are predictions, not guarantees. Always check official warnings before heading into the mountains or out to sea.
How we make money
SunFinder is free and has no ads. When you book a flight, hotel, ferry or activity through some of our links, the partner may pay us a commission. It costs you nothing extra. Commissions never affect the ranking: the order of places depends only on weather, distance and travel time. We would rather tell you to stay home than send you somewhere rainy.
Privacy, briefly
No accounts, no name, no advertising profiles. We need a starting point to compare weather, and you can type a town instead of sharing your location. The details are in our Privacy Policy.
Who is behind it
WeatherFinder is an independent project, made for people who plan their weekends around the forecast.
