Where to find sun from Stockholm

Stockholm's season is light as much as temperature. Summers are bright and mild. Winters are dark, and the archipelago is not a beach weekend.

What you can reach

About 2 hours by car: Uppsala (about 55 min), Västerås (about 1 h 15), Norrköping (about 2 h), Nyköping (about 1 h 15).

Further, still inside 5 hours: Linköping (about 2 h 30), Örebro (about 2 h 15), Jönköping (about 4 h), Gävle (about 2 h 15), Sundsvall (about 5 h).

Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Hamburg, Koszalin, Malmö, Klaipėda. A four-hour flight reaches other northern capitals. It does not reach a climate where winter feels like a holiday in the sun.

Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.

When to stay

Anywhere you can drive in five hours is still the Baltic. The archipelago is the summer trip, and it does not need a better forecast than a clear day in the city. From November to February a car cannot drive you into warm daylight.

Crossing the water

Overnight ferries run to Helsinki and Tallinn. They are city trips across the same Baltic weather, not a way south.
