Where to find sun from Milan

Milan's winter is fog on the plain, not Alpine snow, and the daytime high is still only around 6°. Summers are hot. The lakes to the north are the city's own escape, and they are close.

What you can reach

About 2 hours by car: Turin (about 1 h 45), Genoa (about 1 h 45), Brescia (about 1 h 15), Parma (about 1 h 45).

Further, still inside 5 hours: Munich (about 5 h), Lyon (about 4 h 45), Zürich (about 3 h), Bologna (about 2 h 45), Florence (about 3 h 30).

Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Cagliari, Palma, Salerno, Mataro. Milan is already in the south of this map. A four-hour flight is for the islands or the eastern Mediterranean, not for finding the first warm city. In summer the lakes are usually enough.

Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.

When to stay

Como and Maggiore are within two hours and, in summer, often the better weekend: slightly cooler, not a different plan. In winter the plain and the lakes are both grey. The Ligurian coast is the drive that reaches the sea, and in January that sea is for a walk.
