Where to find sun from Gdansk
Gdansk is a Baltic beach city with a short summer season and a long grey one. The sea is the point in July. In winter the sea is why it feels colder than the number.
What you can reach
About 2 hours by car: Olsztyn (about 2 h), Elblag (about 46 min), Slupsk (about 1 h 30), Grudziadz (about 1 h 30).
Further, still inside 5 hours: Warsaw (about 4 h), Lodz (about 4 h 15), Poznan (about 3 h 30), Szczecin (about 4 h), Hrodna (about 5 h).
Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Hamburg, Malmö, Riga, Gothenburg. A short flight reaches Scandinavia and central Europe, which in winter is sideways, not far enough south.
Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.
When to stay
The coast around the Tri-city is local. Warsaw is inland and, in summer, hotter rather than kinder. A five-hour drive stays in Poland and northern Germany. Book the beach when it is already beach weather here.
Crossing the water
Ferries to Sweden leave from this coast. The crossing stays on the Baltic. Sweden in January is not the sun.
