Where to find sun from Prague
Prague sits in a basin that holds winter fog and summer heat. The countryside around it is the same air, a little cleaner and not a lot warmer.
What you can reach
About 2 hours by car: Dresden (about 1 h 45), Chemnitz (about 2 h), Pilsen (about 1 h 15), Liberec (about 1 h 15).
Further, still inside 5 hours: Berlin (about 4 h), Vienna (about 3 h 30), Munich (about 4 h 15), Wroclaw (about 3 h), Poznan (about 4 h 30).
Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Pescara, Livorno, Rijeka, The Hague. The four-hour flight circle gets past the Alps toward the Adriatic. Short of that, you are still in the same half of the year.
Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.
When to stay
Dresden, Vienna and the Bohemian towns are city breaks, not climate breaks. If the weekend is already clear, the drive does not add sun. Winter sun means flying south of the Alps.
