Where to find sun from Paris

Paris has oceanic winters and summers that actually get hot. Most of a short drive is still northern France: greener, and a similar forecast. The south is a different climate, and it is not a short drive.

What you can reach

About 2 hours by car: Reims (about 1 h 45), Amiens (about 1 h 45), Orleans (about 1 h 30), Rouen (about 1 h 30).

Further, still inside 5 hours: Brussels (about 3 h 45), Nantes (about 5 h), Aachen (about 5 h), Lille (about 3 h), Rennes (about 4 h 30).

Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Barcelona, Toulon, San Sebastián, Genoa. Four hours door to door is enough to reach the Mediterranean. Five hours by car is not. That is the cut from Paris.

Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.

When to stay

Normandy and the Loire are trips for the place, not for a better forecast than a fine weekend in the city. In a heatwave, staying or going north is the better weather. In winter the Mediterranean is a flight, or most of a day on the road.
