Where to find sun from Brussels
Brussels is oceanic and just inland of the coast, so summers resemble Amsterdam and winters are grey rather than cold. The Ardennes to the south are higher and wetter, not sunnier.
What you can reach
About 2 hours by car: Rotterdam (about 1 h 45), Antwerp (about 35 min), Aachen (about 1 h 45), Gent (about 43 min).
Further, still inside 5 hours: Paris (about 3 h 45), Cologne (about 2 h 30), Amsterdam (about 2 h 30), Frankfurt (about 4 h 30), Dortmund (about 3 h 15).
Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Marseille, Genoa, Mestre, Nantes. A four-hour flight reaches the south of France and the edge of northern Spain. That is where summer is reliably hotter. Winter warmth is still a longer flight.
Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.
When to stay
Paris is far enough to be a different city and not far enough to be a different season. If you want better weather than a dry weekend at home, the car will not find it.
