Where to find sun from Frankfurt

The Rhine valley around Frankfurt is one of the milder pockets of Germany. Winters are less sharp than in Bavaria, summers are warm, and the vineyards nearby live on that.

What you can reach

About 2 hours by car: Bonn (about 2 h), Mannheim (about 1 h), Karlsruhe (about 1 h 45), Wuerzburg (about 1 h 30).

Further, still inside 5 hours: Munich (about 4 h 15), Cologne (about 2 h 15), Brussels (about 4 h 30), Stuttgart (about 2 h 15), Dortmund (about 2 h 30).

Inside a 4-hour door-to-door flight, and too far for that drive: Toulon, Livorno, Rijeka, Nantes. A four-hour flight can touch the northern edge of the Mediterranean. It still misses a winter beach.

Car times are the straight-line estimate SunFinder starts from (~70 km/h), before a routed drive. A mountain road or a ferry takes longer. The flight circle is the same 4-hour limit the tool uses.

When to stay

A short drive stays in the same valley weather. Five hours reaches the edge of the Alps or the Moselle, which is scenery more than sunshine. Winter sun is not available by car.
